Covid variant hot spots are ‘volcanoes threatening to explode’

Prominent Liverpool doctor warned of hike coronavirus hot spots are volcanoes that could explode and spread disease across the country.

Scientists assess the impact of detentions scheduled for June 21, dubbed Freedom Day, and if that could be derailed by an increase in infections fueled by the Indian variant.

The latest data on the Covid infection shows that the five areas where the virus is spreading the fastest are in the northwest. These are Rossendale, Blackburn with Darwen, Ribble Valley, Hyndburn and South Ribble.

Blackburn with Darwen overtook Bolton as the UK covid hotspot – a rate of 436 per 100,000 people.
